I was unable to get tickets to the Flight of the Concords when they played in Chicago last fall. Come on! Obscure Australian duo with a goofy comedy on HBO.

I stated that, in fact, most of your posts are (add compliments here) but you have a tendency to respond just to see your post totals. I apologize for the picture (which I will edit); it was a hurried effort during lunch time. I take it there is no need for you to stay at a holiday inn express?

I do like to offer my two cents, and that is why my post total is high. Honestly, though, I'd rather not have a post count at all. After about 1,000, the
counter should turn off and just switch to a "loudmouth bastard" indicator.
Edit - BTW Hockeyfan, if there is any non-pissing-match, post-padding purpose to your posts in this thread, let me know. I know you're a whopping 50 posts behind my total, but this shameless, gratuitous posting is embarrassing both of us.

By the way, thanks for the link on the Reznor post about the concert industry. it's a very good insight into how the whole business works, particularly
the collusion between the promoters and the ticket brokers. Not much of it surprises me, but it's good to keep in mind when you hear of shows selling out
in minutes.
Related to that, I view "toughest ticket to get" as meaning "smallest chance of actually seeing the event if you want to." And for that reason, I'd say the Masters has to be near the top, because those things stay around the same people for decades, and they don't give them up to the secondary market. Lots of events will have things available from scalpers or eBay or stubhub, and if you pay enough (or wait till gameday when people have to dump them), chances are good that you'll find your way in if you really want to. But I can't see anyone showing up at Augusta with a wad of cash and going through the gates 15 minutes later.

Timster96 wrote:yes, my original post. I think. I saved this from long ago (I forgot the author): The point of a public discussion forum is to have free, civilized discourse. Free, civilized discourse is (or should be) the cornerstone of any democratic
society. While someone may have a completely valid point (whether or not you agree with it), the way in which they said it isn't civilized. Civilized
discourse is supposed to provoke rational thought, not irrational emotional response. When you flame away in an uncivilized manner, you evoke the emotional
response, and that's detrimental to civilized discourse.
Some day I hope to achieve this.

Rock Am Ring tickets were hard as shit to get last year. They came out and were gone in the same day, of course the Germans probably told the Americans the
wrong day so we couldn't buy any. Dicks.

Needed to bump this considering this morning's events. Tried to get tickets for the U2 show at Soldier Field in September. Went online to
ticketmaster.com at 10:00 a.m. (the on-sale time), was able to "get through" at 10:02 a.m., finally at 10:06 a.m. (after waiting in the online line),
the system tells me that there are no tickets available. I understand there was a pre-sale last week, I know there are brokers, Bears season ticket holders
who may have had priority, etc., but REALLY? 80,000 seats are sold out in less the six minutes?!?!?!?!?!? W...T...F???

I preferred the old days when you had to sleep out for the best tickets. I slept out for tickets a few times in the 80s (in winter in Minnesota) and it was a fun time. Of course, I was a teenager then so I probably wouldn't be sleeping out for tickets in 2009. |

Sears? Radio Docs? I camped out at the Madison Civic Center in '87 to get tickets for Pink Floyd at County Stadium, and it was a blast. Now, 22 years later, I don't think I would have camped out on a Sunday night in late March for tickets...

odds are ticketmaster outlets are screwed as well. Do you want to be the 5th guy in line who gets to the front at 10:20. Nope, didn't think so.
