Hey Prepkick - your ignorance and poor taste in music really does transcend many styles. -My hero MylesLong 2/29/08 I think you'd be hard pressed to find anybody, even most Rush fans, that would say that Rush comes to mind when they think of the 80s. You aren't only obsessed; you are freaking weird. Triton (also my hero) on Prepkick 3/14/08 |

First time I was out in California (2nd UCLA Rose Bowl), we went to a restaurant in Laguna Beach. The hostess -- probably a 20-year-old girl -- asked where we
were from, and when I said Wisconsin, she said, "Oh, I've never been to the east coast."
I guess Lake Michigan's a lot bigger than I ever thought. |

I think that is how people in the Bay Area, maybe parts of LA, see America. That is certainly not the OC or the San Diegan view of America, where you find a
lot of "religious nutballs" that would never use that sort of characterization. There is a map floating around that is more generic for coastal
people, with the middle 3/4 of the country being shrunk down to "flyover territory", that probably is a more accuracte characterization for the
people around here (at least those that don't have midwestern roots - you'd be shocked at how many people out here are from the midwest, or had parents
from the midwest).

Well, having lived in Cali for 28 years, I'd disagree with Brian. Your map is how I see the US excepting the great upper midwest. It's Wisconsin and
its tributaries rather than Canada. And for Texas, I'd add steers, queers and kjake.
I AM a BADGER!

Ody wrote: Yeah, well you live out in Klantee, and I live in the apartment wasteland of UTC (returning after spending 3 years in Rancho Bernardo - the home of the

I'd say people in LA view the country as barbell shaped, with New York assholes on one end, Cali on the other, and one big stretch of friendly fat people
in the middle.

I'm heading to Cali from Texas tomorrow, and if that's the way y'all see Texas...Hell's coming with me.
I would rather eat vomit from necka's avatar out of a hooker's twat than eat at TGI Friday's.

I'd say those that are more geographically informed in Cali might look at it that way. Otherwise, for those born and raised here, I'd say they look at
California being it's own country / continent (or world) and the rest of the US some other country. You may want to throw NoCal in there for us
SoCal'ers.
My daughter, born and raised in SoCal, would always refer to WI as grandma and grandpa's world when we went for a visit. When we came back home she would say SoCal was "our world". I would say that probably summarizes it perferctly! |

To most Californians, the map is even simpler. Anything on the leeward side of the Rockies is "back east."

When I lived in New Mexico, people on the phone would always say they couldn't ship things to Mexico. I always responded that was a good thing because I
didn't live in Mexico.
I think people are geography challenged. |
