Brett Favre asks for his out right release |
Lead | ||
|
According to his muse Chris Mortensen, he is upset with how this situation has been handled. Granted I have no idea what goes on behind closed doors but there
isn't a person alive that can say the Packers have acted out of line in the public verses what Favre and his reps have done.

First off Favre is coming off like the GF that won't go away. Second the Packers are just going to tell him to go pound sand.

This was his angle all along. He's trying to make Thompson look as bad as possible.
He had no intention of retiring. This is his attempt to get out of Green Bay and make it look like he was forced out.

Whaaaaa, whaaaaa, if this is true, Brett can take his pacifier and go elsewhere for all I care......which isn't much right now.

So the next question is which NFL team in a position to win now needs a proven (albeit over the hill) quarterback. The Vikings, Eagles, and Bucs come to mind.

And if I were Thompson I would not release him. Expose him for the bullshit artist he is.

How come a guy with the mental fortitude to play through multiple injuries and a drug dependency can't stand to live with his own decisions?
At FAMU, not only do the drum majors get more ass than the QB but they need five of them to keep up with demand.

Now the next question, do the Packers refuse to release him(which is what they should do) and thus piss Favre off, possibly causing him to "boycott"
all Packer function including his induction or do they appease him and let him go knowing that he will probably play for a team that could hamper their chances
in the playoffs.
Again Favre really comes off like a Bitch in this whole ordeal. My two year olds tantrums when she can't have her nuk look more tame compared to this. I respect his desire to come back and play, but there are alot better ways of going about it then going public with it crying foul.

Bring back Favre dammit!!!
We don't win a Super Bowl this year with Rodgers at the helm and we have the team to do it with the right guy at the helm. Bring him back, trade Rodgers for another piece of the puzzle (depth) and take our best shot at it. No time like the present as far as I'm concerned. I could give a rats ass how either party is handling things, just get it right so we can have a realistic shot at the title. Our window is getting tight considering our age at DB.
Word.

This is the Packers fault. If Favre wants back you take him back. You grab him.
How damn stupid. We prefer to move on without Favre? We have a very good defense, good receivers, a good RB, a good offensive line...and Thompson is going to roll the dice on Aaron Rodgers? This WILL be Ted Thompson's fault and it WILL be his legacy. He is an arrogant, wormy jerk. Welcome to permant "Public Enemy Number One" status, dick-bastard. |

they CAN'T release him. If he went to the Bears or Vikings it would a complete disaster for everyone involved.
I actually want to see him traded. It would obviously have to be to an AFC team that they don't play this year. I have a morbid curiousity as to how that would turn out. IF he can still be effective and Rodgers sucks or gets hurt, Packer Nation will be apoplectic. Clearly Favre has come to absolutely despise TT and making every effort to make him look bad. It is unbecoming, but in some ways I get it. TT did nothing to help Brett Favre in his tenure. Not 1 good offensive free agent added. Not 1. |

i'm unsure how to feel about this.. i'm annoyed at brett because he said he retired and now wants to come back so that bothers me that he's sort of
handcuffing the franchise.
at the same time, to me, thompson comes off as an egotistical prick that tries to win "his way" to prove other people wrong, and to say look at me.. i built this team. take a look at the RB situation from the last two years, just throwing blindfolded darts at the board and hoping one sticks. all in all, i guess i'm going with favre on this one because he's meant a lot more to me and the franchise than the prick ted thompson has. |

jwill535 wrote: What would you suggest he do? What happens if the Packers refuse to release him or trade him?I never got the feeling Favre wanted to retire. It seemed to me like he figured the Packers wanted him to retire so that's what he did, but after having some time to think about it, he decided he really didn't want to retire. I do think Favre should not have retired if he didn't really want to retire, but ultimately I blame the organization more than Favre for this whole fiasco. EDIT: Does Favre go into the HOF wearing a Falcons jersey now?
EDIT 2: From the espn.com story: Cook's letter did suggest that Favre's accomplishments for the franchise merited the team honoring his request to be released, also asking that the action be taken "with no strings attached." Favre does not want to be traded, sources said, because he wants the freedom of choice to play for any other franchise.
If Favre really wants to jam it up TT's ass, he goes to the Vikings or the Bears. That would be great theater. This is quite Shakespearean.

Thompson deserves this. It certainly appears that he has been trying to get Favre to retire for years and forced him to make a decision last spring. The
question is simple - do the Packers have a better chance of winning next season with Favre under center or Rodgers? Pretty easy answer. Thompson should be
welcoming Favre back with open arms. F*** Thompson.

...on this one:
i guess i'm going with favre on this one because he's meant a lot more to me and the franchise than the prick ted thompson has. Like it or not, folks, as Pooley has said: he wants back in, you bring him back. 'Nuff said. TT strikes me as a guy not above making a power play becoming of a dick, no matter how short sighted. The best QB you can get for this team THIS YEAR shows up on your doorstep and says he's ready to go get it cranked up again. The right reply is, "Man, you're busting my balls here. You have to give us some definition so we can plan for the future. Is this year finally it, or is it next? Just pick one, because this is the last time we go through this. Oh, and by the way, your pads are over there, a new playbook is in your locker. We're in shells today, so go get ready - you've got some catching up to do." I am as big a Packer fan as the next guy, but I personally hope that IF Favre is playing somewhere else next year he has a banner year and that Rodgers struggles. Those asking for the head of the franchise on a platter (apparently, including TT) deserve that much.
On, Wisconsin!

The Packers have no choice in the matter. They can't make him stay retired.
They only have 3 options. 1) release him 2) trade him 3) he is on the 80 man roster and at training camp Given that everyone in the league knows what a bad spot the Packers are in, why would anyone offer anything of value for him? |
