The Western Collegiate Hockey Association is going to get a little bigger starting in 2010.
The WCHA voted Friday to admit Bemidji State and Nebraska-Omaha beginning in the 2010-11 season. It is the first time the WCHA has expanded since adding Minnesota State-Mankato for the 1999-2000 season.
The two schools will make the WCHA a 12-team conference. The other members are the University of Wisconsin, Alaska-Anchorage, Colorado College, Denver, Michigan Tech, Minnesota, Minnesota-Duluth, Minnesota State-Mankato, North Dakota and St.Cloud State.
"I am extremely pleased to announce the WCHA is expanding to 12 teams,'' WCHA commissioner Bruce McLeod said. "This is certainly a defining moment for the WCHA. ...''
Bemidji State advanced to the NCAA men's Frozen Four in April.
"This is a great day for the Beavers,'' Bemidji State men's hockey coach Tom Serratore said.
Return later for more on Friday's announcement, including reaction from UW.

Thoughts? My only initial one is that now Tech has someone to fight with for last place each season. I'm not sure how I feel about this. What happens
to the schedule now? Less non-conference games? A longer schedule? Both?
