Posts: 184 10/19/09 3:13 PM	Ok, here's the deal - Wife wants to go to Vegas. She has been there and I haven't. When I ask the person who has been there, and wants to go back, where she wants to stay I get, "I don't care". Pretty helpful. I start searching online and there are a bazillion options. We are going to fly out on a Wednesday and come back on Sunday. I searched through the old threads here and there was a thread on what to do cheaply for a day (in an effort not trying to repeat something that has already been done). So, just a couple of questions: Where would you recommend for us to stay? I will gamble a little bit but what things would you recommend for us to do? Thanks

A guy in my office just got an amazing deal on expedia for air and hotel at theHotel at Mandalay Bay. $400+ for air and 3 nights, including a weekend, in November. The answer to your question depends entirely on your budget. Absent finding a great deal, Paris and the Flamingo have proved to be very good values lately, and are in a perfect location. A little more upscale, I love the Venetian, and it is a great place to stay with your wife. Pretty much any Cirque du Soleil show is good. If you like the Beatles, go see LOVE at the Mirage. I saw Penn and Teller last week at the Rio and loved it.

Posts: 1136 10/19/09 3:39 PM	Mandalay if you can get a deal is great. The Mirage is a great value deal. They did some nice upgrades, are right in the heart of the strip, and have a pool area called Bare that I highly recommend checking out. I'll be staying at the Mirage the next time I go which will probably be next year. Word.

Most of the action is in an area near, The Bellagio, Paris, Mirage, Venetian, The Palazzo and Ceasars. The Wynn and Wynn Encore are nice but a little further off the strip as is Mandalay Bay. This can save you $ on cabs. I would stay away from renting a car unless the Hoover Dam is something you would like to see, and even then I would just rent for the day.(If you haven't , I think it is worth it.) If you like dining, Vegas is great. There are almost too many places to pick from. The shows are great, and I second Beatles Love. Have fun. I stole a shopping cart from the A&P and go around the office twice a day collecting aluminum cans. It's gotten easier and quicker now that everybody is accustom to my schedule, and just quickly throws a can in the cart without unnecessary chit-chat or eye contact. LumpyWideAss 7-2-2009

The summer projects are at the same stage they were on August 10th when practice started and the grass has been cut 2 times I think. I tried to propose a weekend in the Dells or Door County and that was shot down. So you could say it is payback. Thanks for the suggestions so far. It is very helpful.

Posts: 92 10/20/09 7:33 AM	that deal mentioned above for The Hotel at Mandalay Bay sounds very good. I have stayed there a few years back and it was really nice. Brothers bachelor party! I believe I spent almost $400 a night so that is a very good deal. A little south as Mosh said.

If you're wife has a problem with mildew and semen-stained carpet, I'd suggest staying elsewhere. I stayed there about 3 years ago and the room was pretty nice. Not to the level of Bellagio/ Venetian/ Caesars, etc., but perfectly acceptable. I would be interested if any others have stayed there and had a similar experience. Maybe it's going downhill.

Posts: 611 10/20/09 8:15 AM	IMO a very underrated hotel and good value is the Planet Hollywood (was Aladdin). Personally, I'd pick one of the hotels in the middle of the strip (which includes Planet Hollywood), Bellagio (if you want upscale), Mirage, Harrahs (cheaper and not a bad hotel), Ceasar's and so on. One of my favorite things to do in Vegas is to walk up and down the strip looking at all of the different hotels, you can spend a full day or two just looking at the hotels, the attractions, trying some different restaurants. If you stay in the middle of the strip it is much easier to get to the attractions, other casino's, restaurants you want to to check out. Last Edited By: jebucky 10/20/09 8:17 AM. Edited 1 time.

Posts: 572 10/20/09 8:59 AM	Hey Hersch, The Mrs. and I stayed at Mandalay Bay a few years back and had a great time. As others have noted, it's on the end of the strip. But, we were fine with that. Saw the Cirque show KA at the MGM. It was pretty cool. I know you're not a huge "car guy," but I rented one of these for a couple of days and drove it around outskits of Vegas. They got sum nice drivin roads out in the desert.

Posts: 1573 10/20/09 9:34 AM	Mandalay Bay is a good option because it really offers 3 different hotels (Mandalay Bay, the Hotel and The Four Seasons). Make sure the pool is still open because that's what really makes it worthwhile. There are a lot of different pool scenes there. If you are crafty enough to get access, take your wife to the Four Seasons pool (within the Mandalay complex). It's a plush little oasis in the middle of the madness and a nice way to spend an afternoon. I also concur with others that it's a good move to stay in a less expensive place in the middle of the strip. If, however, you are interested in a splurge or can negotiate a discounted rate, The Wynn and Bellagio are really nice places to stay, especially if you are taking your wife. I like the Wynn, if only because it's newer, but the Bellagio is in a slightly better location. I haven't stayed at the new Wynn tower (Encore?) yet but I'm sure it's awesome. The rooms are huge and have tons of amenities. Both have great restaurants, a fun atmosphere (The Wynn crowd is a bit older) and are visually impressive (both architecture and people watching). If you are looking for a more memorable, indulgent hotel experience with your wife (it is Vegas, after all) you can't go wrong at either one. It'll beat the shit out of your wallet, though. I stayed at Planet Hollywood last spring and it's very decent- a poor man's Hard Rock Hotel with a great location and an attached mall (Miracle Mile Shops, or something like that). My favorites are Mandalay Bay/The Hotel, the Bellagio and the Venetian. I will strongly advise using kayak.com or sidestep.com for the best rates and if you are really in a gambling mood give hotwire.com a whirl.

I stole a shopping cart from the A&P and go around the office twice a day collecting aluminum cans. It's gotten easier and quicker now that everybody is accustom to my schedule, and just quickly throws a can in the cart without unnecessary chit-chat or eye contact. LumpyWideAss 7-2-2009

Posts: 207 10/20/09 10:18 AM	The Flamingo upgraded some of their rooms I believe they're called "GO" rooms. I had no problem with my room at the Flamingo and got upgraded to a junior suite one year I was there. Then again, I was 23 and went with similar age guys, we didn't really care a whole lot about the quality of my room.
