First of all, I hope he recovers fully... but I also hope he doesn't remember anything about it as that monkey from TWOO is very scary.

I just read this article regarding him getting hit in the head halloween night by some dressed as the flying monkey from The Wizard of Oz.... He's from
Baraboo and played in the 87-88 time frame. I only got to listen to games on the radio then so I have no recollection.....

Back in the late 80s I subscribed to The Sporting News, and one day in the "Ask the Ref" column, there was a question that went something like,
"If Wisconsin's Darin Schubring were to jump from behind the three-point line and dunk, would it be worth 2 points or 3 points?" which was pretty
funny if you had ever seen him play.

I remember him air balling a free throw in the 1st half of a game and then his dad air balling one in some contest at half time minutes later. Good stuff.

I've met Darin a few times as he is a good friend of my best friend. He's a great guy, extremely nice and very funny. I hope all turns out well for
him.
I can't explain it. There's some sort of weird chemical reaction that happens when you combine cat food, beer, and glue.

I always liked Schu as a player, he tried so hard against obviously much better players.

Darren is a great guy who is very involved in youth basketball around Madison and is a very loyal supporter of Badger athletics. I bet he hasn't missed
more than a dozen basketball games since he graduated. A true Badger for life.

I spoke at a youth coaches clinic last fall and like every coach who speaks at these things I gave out contact information. The next day I got a call from
Darin Schubring. We talked for 20 minutes or so as he had questions about our shooting mentality. He talked about Yoder and his mentality for shot selection.
It was interesting. He's a little younger than I and I was in college at the same time he was so I remember him clearly. I also recall he and Tom
Molaski being together a lot at parties I attended with friends in Madison. I've always heard great things about him and his love of the Badgers. Get
well soon. You're in the thoughts and prayers of many a Badger fan today.

I was an undergrad the same time he was, remember him well. Unbelievable. I hope he has a full recovery and that guy gets the book thrown at him.

remember going to a WBCA Clinic and Yoder pulls DS over during their demo session and tells the crowd: "This is the kind of Wisconsin kid we need down
here. 6'10 and works his butt off..."
Best wishes to DS. |

When I got into the business as a financial advisor, Darin was my mentor for the first couple of years. He was a great guy and I could have been knocked over
with a feather when I heard this. Why would some idiot do something like this. Just sucks. My prayers go out to him and his family. His son looked like he was
going to be as big as Darin. If anyone knows anything more as to his condition, I would love to hear about it.

Last I heard, the jagoff that sucker punched him has not been identified. I hope he's found.

latest post from Madison WISCTV today:
Former Baraboo Basketball Star Hurt In Bar Fight Schubring Punched In Madison Bar Posted: 4:31 pm CST November 10, 2009 MADISON, Wis. -- A former Baraboo High School basketball star remains in critical condition after being punched in a Madison bar on Halloween by a man dressed as a flying monkey. A spokeswoman for the University of Wisconsin Hospital in Madison said Tuesday that Darin Schubring, 42, is critical but stable condition. She had no other details. Schubring's father, John Schubring of Baraboo, said his son was trying to calm the man in the Wizard of Oz costume before he was struck on the temple, fell and hit his head. A police spokesman said the detective on the case expects to make an arrest. The 6-foot-10 Darin Schubring led the Thunderbirds to a 22-0 record and their first state tournament appearance in 33 years during his junior year. He went on to play at the University of Wisconsin and professionally in Europe. |

I have heard from a relative that Darin is improving and they are optimistic for a full recovery. Will take time. That was of Monday so I don't know if
anything has changed. I also understand that it is just a matter of time before an arrest is made.

Bastard
|
On the radio this morning, I heard a report that quoted a family member as saying that Darin was now able to carry on a conversation and that they could
understand things he was saying, and that this was a major improvement. He must have really taken a shot. How frightening. It just seems like they should be
able to find the bastard that did it. You don't dress up like a flying monkey without friends and others noticing.

I've heard similar things. They're seeing positive improvements each-and-every day, but it's going to be a long road back. I think an arrest will
be made shortly.

Getting hit in the temple, hitting your head against a door, and falling and hitting your head on cement makes we think Darin had a guardian angel with him. Most people would not survive 3 serious blows to the head. Praying for a speedy recovery. |

How does someone NOT turn him in. Unless he went out alone that night (which would make him an even bigger loser than I thought possible) he had to identified
himself to some friends that night.
Frustrating that people are likely protecting this ahole. |
