There are only three conferences that can claim with a straight face that they are strong academically and athletically - the Big Ten, PAC 12, and ACC. I don't think Oklahoma is going to the Atlantic Coast Conference. The Big Ten seems a stretch, so most likely the PAC 12, except Larry Scott has been pretty firm that the conference is not looking for new members at this time.

I thought Oklahoma had already made some comments that basically said they weren't interested in the SEC for academic reasons? I don't think it is a great fit but I bet Oklahoma would love to get a B10 invite. However, I don't see it happening - especially if OKState has to go with them (and I say this being a OKState former employee and fan).

What I find really interesting in all this is how are a few teams going to find a home - nobody wants OKState, Iowa State, Texas Tech, and a few others.

Seems like Pac and SEC to me also. I don't see the logic in Big 10 denying Mizzou and offering Oklahoma. IIRC there were some previous statements from Pac commish basically talking openly about a megaconference...

Several articles in recent weeks have said Boren, OU's President and the state's former Governor, would prefer to join the B1G to upgrade its academics. However, it's interesting that there's been little puchback from OU or UT on A&M's move to the SEC. There was an article I linked earlier (I think) from Austin saying that UT is waiting for OU to take the lead in making the move the finally ends the Big XII, with both (joined by OK State and T Tech) going to the Pac-12/16. That's what nearly happened last year.

As for Larry Scott's claim that that conference isn't interested--isn't that what Slive said just a couple of weeks ago re: SEC expansion? Take that disclaimer with a grain of salt. Same for Delany's claim that nothing was going to happen the B1G for the forseeable future. Many dances being choreographed, mostly for legal/financial reasons.

The deluge that nearly happened last year in a rush now seems likely to happen in the coming months, after everyone's had time to work out the logistics.

Places where they're worried, I would think: Waco, Lawrence, Manhattan, Ames, Providence (where Big East offices are located).

Put me firmly in the B1G standing firm at 12 camp, but what do I know? To me, the only two that make sense are Penn State Pitt and Mizzou, if one ignores the eternal elephant-in-the-room Notre Dame (and fuck 'em, I don't even want them in our conference. Who needs those prima donnas?).

12 is a nice number.

Financially for the Big 10 this would have an outrageous impact, assuming we can get UT off LHN and ND off their deal, BTN could make the argument to be on basic tier nationally, and the $ would be incredible. Of course we'd have to deal w/ those douche's at UT whose arrogance in creating the LHN destroyed the Big12...

Well, I think Pitt and Mizzou are nothing to scoff at in either category. Considering the ego issues at Texas and ND, I'd rather not have them and forgo a little money for the conference. Mizzou in particular would bring St. Louis and Kansas city into the mix TV wise and is a great geographic fit, in addition to being a pretty strong academic addition.

If I'm Texas, I'd be rethinking what I've done and looking at options to fix the mess I'd made.
The won't be able to sustain their own TV network unless they remain a top team and A&M
could realisticly pass them as a football team. They are already ranked much higher than Texas
this year, finished higher last year and A&M can now point out to home-state recruits the chance
to play in the SEC (if that is their conference destination) versus Texas who can offer them the
chance to be seen playing Rice on a network no one has.

That's what I was thinking when I saw Hobey's post about adding, Duke, Maryland, UNC, or UVA. Heck even adding Notre Dame would be a huge deal. With UM upgrading to varsity, the B10 would only need two more teams to have their own conference.
