The Aggies sit in the middle of some of the best recruiting grounds in the country. Think about it. They can tell kids, come play in the best football conferece. You'll be playing Florida, Alabama, LSU. That's gotta be an attractive sell to recruits. Meanwhile A&M can also stick it to Texas a bit by opening up those Texas recruiting grounds to the SEC programs. And after awhile, maybe recruiting for the Longhorns involves more than just cherry-picking the top in-state players.

Delany also told the Tribune that any SEC expansion – the conference is reportedly interested in adding Texas A&M and perhaps Clemson, Florida State and Missouri – would not affect the Big Ten. “No, we’re about as comfortable as we can be with where we are,” Delany said. “We’ve said we will continue to monitor the landscape, but we have closed down active expansion. Every period you look at it, but we don’t expect anything the SEC does to affect us.”

I'm not sure the B1G is a place they'd like to land because they would be much less powerful. And football continues to play second fiddle to basketball there. BC is ND lite, though it does give the B1G a presence in the New England tv market. Otherwise, it's not a great fit for the conference. UVA would be a nice academic addition (as would UNC), but what else do they bring? If paired with Maryland, perhaps a strong conference presence in the DC market--good for the BTN.

I like the Southern Option being discussed. Taking a few southern schools might help the B1G baseball programs and make early season scheduling easier.

Army and Navy have cooperated to establish a commont tv contract and bowl tie-ins as a precedent for ND-UT cooperation, except that the latter would be a much bigger, richer deal.

CportBadger wrote: If Texas goes independent where do their other sports go?I understand your TV argument with respect to the Texas Rangers, but don't think this is an apples-to-apples comp here. Football, you're looking at 4 away games and with ABC's current set-up, there's a good chance none of the games would end up at 9PM Central. For basketball, you might be looking at doubleheaders on whatever platform they have and always give them the 8PM Central game, when the current Big 12 Big Monday game is. I'm not sure if the other sports matter for this discussion.
