The guy comes across as barely literate (mumbling, dropping f-bombs, m-fers, etc.) but apparently he's an incredibly successful business man. I believe Dykstra owns some high end car washes in Southern California. I liked him as a player. Good nickname (N ails). I remember reading an article about him and he seemed like a bit of a meathead but I don't recall finding him all that unlikeable. By the way, I did not see the interview you referenced. In cases like Dykstra I respect what he has accomplished but I suspect if I met the guy I would not like him as a person. The piece stated that he recently sold those three car washes for $55 million.

Sure that's success, but could he have done it from scratch? To me that's a successful businessman. As for Dykstra, I couldn't stand him when he was with the Mets. He very well may have been my most hated player in the game (Strawberry was up there too). But I liked him when he was with the Phillies, and had he made his way over to the Cubs while still in his prime, I probably would have loved the guy. At first, I thought this thread was going to be about how Dykstra had lost his mind and left the reservation. Then I remembered that was Darren Daulton. Only a matter of time before Real Sports does an update on him, I suppose.

The Phillies had just announced the trade of Von Hayes to the Angels. Dykstra was asked for his reaction by the assembled media. His response, completely deadpanned: "Great trade. Who'd we get?"

The SI article on him mentioned that he is pretty leveraged, something like $90 million in debt in the past few years alone. Far be it from me to judge a guy who has made that kind of bread, but I find it ironic that he's launching a magazine on money management for professional athletes.
