The illustration was clear enough for its intended purpose, which was to show that McCain rejected the endorsement so he could disclaim a mutual connection to Hagee. It's completely irrelevant that you think McCain's rejection was inadequate to disown Hagee. His mere attempt to do so proves the much larger point. I never even discussed whether or not McCain accomplished what he was trying to, so how can I be "wrong"? All three of the sentences I wrote on McCain/Hagee are factually true. As always, this post is written with the express proviso that I am not a chicken little. The sky is not falling. My office window does not have a ledge. I'm happy we won. I heard some ranked teams even lost. I'm glad we are not Virginia Tech. I like our coach. I know these are 19 year old kids. The season is young. Mistakes will get cleaned up. Fowler said even Alabama threw an interception once. The other guys are on scholarship, too. After living through the Don morton era, I'm just glad to be here.

Clearly Obama won't make a statement on Maher's words, in fact, Carney said the Administration doesn't control what people say - so, they won't be giving that $1 million back....even Schumer said they won't give Maher's money back. So calling successful women in power a "cunt" is defacto the words of the Obama Administration. They surely felt that way about Hillary too. The political left is hell bent on keeping the focus off Obama, the economy and gas prices. They choose instead to use these phony social issues that women are losing rights, etc. Their focus on Rush is borderline delusional in comparison to the things pundits on the left say - they need to shut down debate and control the media for their shit to have a chance of getting by the electorate. Just recently Maher was joking about southerner's celebrating "cracker" day. Anyone that mocks the idiocy of the left seems to become a target by the media and this administration....similar to dissenters in Syria, Iran or N Korea. If everyone had to lay their chips on the table the batshit crazy ideology of Obama would far outweigh the ramblings of a nearly mainstream Rush Limbaugh. I show 1000 posts on this board when you enter 'any date'. In the last 12 months, it shows I've posted 152 times (153 with this post). In the past 6 months, I've posted 31 times (now 32). For comparison, here are Politics board post totals for several of you for the last 6 months: whirly - 109 bhambadger - 373 yanked - 1000 myles - 351 OB - 1000 Big Apple - 654 Lumpy - 280 Combad - 593 ToddPacker - 187 zoobadger - 107 So yes, I am one of those opinionated idiots I referred to before. I used to be more active - much more active, but that's been on a steady decline the last year because of how unpleasant the tenor of the discourse has become (to me, at least). The board is much less about discussion than it used to be and much more about venting outrage. That's fine, too - an outlet for our outrage is a useful. I've just lost much of my ability to be interested in that sort of thing. I check in from time to time because my innate curiousity gets the better of me and I'll respond if something provokes me (old political passions die hard, I guess). None of this changes my point, which whirly really made in a more succinct way. Thanks, whirls.

Yes, it is ugly" Burton, the founder of the PAC Maher donated to, called Maher "a comedian" and his words "vulgar and inappropriate." Pretty damn similar quotes. Now lets see if the "same thing" has happened in response: The day after Steele's initial comments he said that "My intent was not to go after Rush -- I have enormous respect for Rush Limbaugh. I was maybe a little bit inarticulate ... There was no attempt on my part to diminish his voice or his leadership. I went back at that tape and I realized words that I said weren't what I was thinking. There are those out there who want to look at what he's saying as incendiary and divisive and ugly. That's what I was trying to say. It didn't come out that way. I respect Rush Limbaugh, he is a national conservative leader, and in no way do I want to diminish his voice," Steele said. "I'm sure that he and I will agree most of the time, but will probably disagree some as well, which is fine." It's been 11 days since Burton's statement. I can't find a follow up statement saying he was "inarticulate," that his words were "taken out of context," or a clarification that he recognizes Maher's "voice and leadership" and place as a "national [progressive] leader." Maybe you can help us. Bottom line: The chairman of the GOP said Rush was "an entertainer" who is "incendiary" and "ugly." He was forced to recant and acknowledge that Rush has a "voice and leadership" role and is a "national conservative leader." So, it isn't liberals who are trying to label Rush as prominent figure within the party. It's the head of the party itself. On the other hand, the head of the PAC called Maher a "comedian" who was "vulgar and inappropriate." Yet, I can't find where he was forced to recant or clarify anything. Why? Because Maher is a fucking comedian with no voice or leadership role. He doesn't have the juice to force Burton, or anyone else, to grovel for daring to belittle him. It's pretty simple, and it all played out right before your eyes. All you have to do now is open them. Of course, this doesn't take into account the many other incidents that prove Limbaugh's role and stature within the party (like making him an honorary member of their caucus, for one). I agree with DCB that Limbaugh does not speak for all Republicans, that there are many who disagree with him and he is but one of many voices and opinions within the party. It's impossible to deny, however, that he has a place at the big kids' table, while the same is not true for Bill Maher. That's why it's a false equivalency.
