The writer acknowledges the injury problems, but then ignores the fact that without 'em we'd be fine in terms of having enough QBs on the roster. He also ignores the implications of taking multiple QBs in each class. If there's one thing we learned from our RW/DO'B experiences, it's that QBs are incredibly cognizant of the depth chart and what level of opportunity that presents. Changing our recruiting approach and, ultimately, how our QB depth is managed, is more complicated than the writer seems to recognize. Sure, you can take more kids, but maybe individually those kids are more of the 'just a guy' caliber and not of the 'special/stud prospect' caliber. It's a calculated risk, for sure, to go 1 QB per class, but the potential pay off is arguably bigger by targeting one kid you think is special than targeting multiple kids who are likely to be program guys who evolve into game managers. Also, the writer completely ingores the unique situation UW is in with its roster. We had a relatively small class this year and next year's looks to be even smaller. With that hard reality, you can't exacerbate your roster challenges by potentially ignoring other positions in order to bring in more QBs. Obviously, QB has to be a priority, but do you take an extra QB instead of an OL, LB, etc, etc? Bottom line, I found the piece to be a predictable reaction to DO'B's announcement and one that is superficial, at best.

(like last year) These happen every year, it's just that when it is for high school kids nobody complains about 1) the huge advantages for PSU / tOSU / Bama and 2) it takes 20 years of bad teams before Notre Dame's inability to develop players from highly rated recruits gets noticed. If 2 Badger QBs get injured it somehow reflects on an entire process of recruiting HS players? And lots of the bitching will come from people who, at other times, will campaign for student athletes to have greater flexibility -- only to look askance on one of the few situations that actually does give athletes some leverage, after they prove themselves on the field and in the classroom. Personally I am going to enjoy all of the bitching as the Badgers head to Pasadena again next year. Whine Sparty, whine!

I am very pleased to hear that Danny is coming to Madison but I have to disagree with many on this board who are defending the history of QB recruiting at UW. I have been a season ticket holder for 40 years and I believe we have had exactly two great QB's in the past half century. They were Ron Vanderkelen and Russel Wilson. We have had a lot of good and a few not so good QB's. We have had a lot of well-coached, overachieving QB's but very few great QB's. It would be one thing if we recruited 1- 4or5 star QB each year but we don't. We are able to recruit mid-level talent at QB and have been fortunate to have coaches that were able to turn them into effective Badger QB's but, historically, our QB depth has been marginal. I hope Wilson, O'Brien and Houston mark the turning point for Badger QB's but history says otherwise. If we get a recruit like Houston, then 1QB per class is fine but that will probably be the exception and not the rule.

2.5 seconds to throw? How do you go down field in 2.5 seconds?

Nothing like shooting your load before the season starts, or even spring practice.
