That said based on Bo's presesason comments and some comments that are coming out from assistant coaches it sounds like he absolutlely would have played significant minutes and likely started here for up to 3 years.  His leaving is a real loss to this program.

It is pretty mind boggling.  A top basketball player leaving one of the top basketball programs in the country and losing a year of eligibility with no guarantees on the other end.  Given that he is appealing the restrictions I wonder  if the coaches guessed correctly where he wants to play.  

I have no problems with the restrictions.  He signed a contract to play here with the current coaching staff; time and money was invested in getting him ready athletically and  academically.   Given these circumstances he shouldn't be permitted to go somewhere that could further harm this program (e.g. a Big Ten school, Marquette, or other schools that we would likely go up against for recruits).  UW is within their rights to protect their basketall program.  When a recruit signs on the line to come to UW the staff and school take that seriously.  We don't book too many scholarships and nudge someone out the door. We make a commitment to player and as Gavinski demonstrted we stick to that.  We should expect the same in return, and in cases where a mutual decision is reached to release the player, UWs interest should take primary consideration unless there are extenuating circumstances (e.g. sick family member, academic struggles, etc.).
