Posts: 7099 April 15, 2012 10:19 PM Phil King "200 lbs, dripping wet"	Remove this ad I just started reading Cullen Murphy's book on the Inquisition ("God's Jury: The Inquisition and the Making of the Modern World") and the most interesting tid-bit in the first twenty pages was that the INDEXES to documents held by the Vatican comprise 35,000 volumes. He attacks people who he thinks question his sent-from-above decrees, threatens those who spread what he calls "rumors and gossip," wants a strict doctrinaire interpretation of Church rules and meanwhile goes out to lunch and feels free to drink wine and eat well. Let the "Little People" follow the rules made several centuries ago - he is a modern Bishop and modern rules are great for himself, just not anyone else. Everybody seems irked about the new liturgy. Herself's criticism -- "It's a crappy, literal translation." Makes sense to me.

X Other than the occasional forays into places like Bern's and excessive consumption of brown liquor, you actually lead a lifestyle that would match will with Buddhist thought and practice. As I've stated on this board, I was raised die hard Catholic and turned big time Atheist. Science will set you free. I struggled with it as an early adult, but now I consider it one of the best, most logical decisions I've made in my life. Read stuff by Hitchens, Dawkins, or Sagan and it will open your mind. Conventional religion becomes a series of brainwashing techniques, complete superstition and utter folly. But, whatever floats you boat. People should still be cool to each other. Unfortunately, seems that bishop dude isn't doing that. All too common in that church. TAW, it ain't that bad on the "Other Side" But either way, I wish you well on your journey. Switch "Morlino" and "Burke" for John Nienstedt (sp?) and St. Paul-Minneapolis for Madison, and you have the situation that things are in here in the Twin Cities. I can't stand to go to the parish close to my house, as the priests are more concerned with their flock voting "for life" than they are actually doing the work of the church. Many of my Catholic friends in their 20s and 30s aren't having anything to do with Nienstedt's furious drive to pass the anti-gay-marriage amendment (the ink hadn't yet dried on his installation papers before he started running his mouth on the matter), and the parish I attend isn't exactly giving his lobbying a warm reception.
