The stuff in the other thread made me wonder about this. Obviously I enjoy talking about sports or I wouldn't post here with fellow fans of a team I follow. But I have no interest in sports media other than to read the morning paper and local reporters' stories about the teams that I follow (often through internet links helpfully found here). I don't watch or listen to any sports talk programming. I find it utterly inane and irritating. I also don't watch sports "news" on television. The only sports I watch on TV are the actual events, and I frequently turn down or tune out the announcers when I do so. If I can see it I generally don't need to have somebody tell me what I can see. I don't subscribe to any sports magazines and I hate sports books in general.
Apparently, this puts me out of the mainstream, which is a place I am quite familiar with. But I'm curious about the rest of you. Do you really consume that stuff? Why? Why do you think these nabobs' opinions are worth your time? My instinctive reaction to sports columnists or talk show hosts/personalities is that they are firmly on the bottom rung of the journalistic ladder.
