Hopefully, one of the unintended consequences of this will be to shine a spotlight on the members of congress and president, both of whom were gutless and misleading in not calling the mandate and related fines exactly what they are: huge tax increases. A second unintended and desirable consequence has, apparently, already occurred: Roberts is suddenly the hero of the left. That will cease once his opinion is used to accomplish unintended consequence number one.

If folks do as they should and exercise personal responsibility in getting coverage rather than acting as free-riders, not a penny in revenue will be owed or collected, and the provision will have performed its purpose to perfection. If, on the other hand, folks choose to not get insurance, they'll also be choosing to owe a tax. It's hard to feel much sympathy for those who elect of their own accord to subject themselves to a tax.

That means we all have to pay for insurance that covers abortion, sex change operations, contraception, and every other possible alleged medical need. That means that we can't buy inexpensive health insurance that merely covers catastrophe. The intention is to get the healthy to overpay for their insurance in order to cover the insurance of the unhealthy. It's more economic redistribution. Spreading the health around.

I don't know who trusts whom, but in the past one had a choice---a free market---in picking an insurance carrier. and the type of coverage. Now it is unlikely there will be any private insurers around---the govt. will control all health care decisions. Obama has directly attacked the only major private provider of health and education too. Is that a coincidence? Didn't Obama & co. argue that this is not a tax? Remember how the 2200 pages nobody read before passing included a major expansion of IRS? That was a clue. What is now to restrict govt. takeover of car insurance? Life insurance? Under the banner of "helping" and redistributing the personal wealth of the successful, the federal government will soon totally control our education, health care, and even home ownership, to say nothing of income. A major journey down the road to serfdom, but a lot of people like it, as long as they believe they will always receive more than they contribute--i.e. trust govt to take from others and give to them, but not the reverse.

I haven't been able to select my insurance company OR my doctors for many, many years now.
