I have a sizable crew planning on making the trip up for the MSU game on Halloween weekend. My concern is that State St. will not be accessible on Saturday night without pre-purchased tickets. Can someone who's familiar with the current Halloween set-up shed some light on this for me? Just want to make alternative party arrangements if State St. is indeed out of play that night. Thanks.

it will be closed down for stupid Freakfest. you can but tickets in advance or buy them right down on state st. personally i have never gone to it as it was not out of control 80,000 person street party anymore, so i have no idea what to tell you as far as that goes.

If you get on state street early enough you can avoid the barricades and police blocks, but not sure if end of game and police rules gives you enough time!

Unless you're 18-22 years old, its really not worth being anywhere close to State St on Halloween weekend.

It's not even bothered substantially during Mifflin. However, the main transportation corridors to the north are cut off. I'm guessing Wilson St. would be the best way to come from the east side if you had to.

Thanks DR. Actually, we will be headed from the game to the Hyatt to shower and then somewhere West or South to eat, maybe one of those nice Middleton joints. Wonder if the Tapas place on University is still decent? They never seem to be too crowded and their food (when I ate there last year) was pretty good as I recall.

You can buy tickets for Halloween Freakfest the night of the show. A little higher price than pre-purchased and, as noted, you may have to stand in line.

I agree with comments that Halloween on State Street is for those at least, um, let's say, many, many years younger than I am. Folks go now for the scene and the music. Much more controlled than in the old days; the crowd is now more like in the 40-50,000 range. And if you do something illegal, you'll get busted and will be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.

I don't think the bands for this year have been announced yet. Frank Productions handles that part.
