Posts: 1620 July 10, 2012 10:58 PM	Remove this ad im not sure if this has been discussed here before, but i would like to see a name stick for out wonderful football stadium. in light of places having such nicknames as Death Valley, The Swamp, The Autzen Zoo, The 12th Man, The Horseshoe, The Big House, ect. just going to throw a couple ideas out there: House Of Pain, The Camp, The House That Barry Built. feel free to add on or tell me how awful my ideas are...... You look like Babe Ruth's gay brother. Gabe Ruth.

Some places are iconic enough that they don't need a "cute" nickname....Fenway Park, Soldier Field, Dodger Stadium, The Rose Bowl (stadium) come to mind. "The Camp" is fine in the same way that "The Fens" works for the bandbox in Boston. Camp Randall is probably one of the 25-or-so most iconic sports stadiums in the country, and part of a handful that don't need a nickname. House of Pain is both cheesy and, IIRC, what they called the Astrodome when the Oilers had some decent teams. One of the charming things about the atmosphere around Wisconsin football is that so little of it is contrived. Beginning with Camp Randall, the stadium is there because it's always been there....shoehorned into the neighborhood a bit like Wrigley or Fenway. We don't need to have "color outs" because most people wear red anyway, and didn't need to be told to do so. "Jump Around" happened because the fortunate confluence of an out-of-the-box PA assistant and a creative student section. Waving during "Varsity" because the band director wanted the students to say "hi" to the Chancellor. etc.
