I care about life so I'd ban both and keep guns for hunting. I'd also laugh at all the morally bankrupt leftists that can't hold a family together. Bad kids are the result. More and more of these mass murders are occurring, and they occur because guns -- terrorist weapons included -- are freely available to people with absolutely no need for them. Louie Gohmert (R-Texas) said Friday that the shootings that took place in an Aurora, Colo. movie theater hours earlier were a result of "ongoing attacks on Judeo-Christian beliefs" and questioned why nobody else in the theater had a gun to take down the shooter. During a radio interview on The Heritage Foundation's "Istook Live!" show, Gohmert was asked why he believes such senseless acts of violence take place. Gohmert responded by talking about the weakening of Christian values in the country. "You know what really gets me, as a Christian, is to see the ongoing attacks on Judeo-Christian beliefs, and then some senseless crazy act of terror like this takes place," Gohmert said. "Some of us happen to believe that when our founders talked about guarding our virtue and freedom, that that was important," he said. "Whether it's John Adams saying our Constitution was made only for moral and religious people ... Ben Franklin, only a virtuous people are capable of freedom, as nations become corrupt and vicious they have more need of masters ... We have been at war with the very pillars, the very foundation of this country." Ernest Istook, the host of the show and a former Oklahoma congressman, jumped in to clarify that nobody knows the motivation of the alleged Aurora gunman. Gohmert said that may be true, but suggested the shootings were still "a terrorist act" that could have been avoided if the country placed a higher value on God.

All kinds of moral hazards are readily endorsed by both parties, shouldn't be a surprise to anyone. Abortion? Nah, no horror or amazement there, just a choice - like gun ownership. Moral hazards like smoking, drugs, drinking, children out of wedlock - hey, lets legalize it and then make the innocent in society pay for the resulting social costs, hundreds of billions, btw. And casualties, hell, only a couple million a year among those issues....but hey, I'm damn mad about a random shooting where 12 people died. That's like the government cutting back the debt by reducing paper clip costs by 2%. We need leaders to step up and negotiate compromise. No assault weapons. No free healthcare for smokers/drinkers. No abortions except in the case of rape, incest or health of the mother. No tax increases/cuts unless they increase/cut equally for all. No tax loopholes for the rich, or poor. We can fix society if the selective outrage exhibited above is removed from the debate. This discussion goes nowhere without significant compromise by both sides. And so it will stay as is, forever As I suspected, progressives have a Koch Fetish.

I would look for the person standing there with automatic weapons flashing as people ran in the opposite direction or ducked down in aisles. You think it would be hard to be in a theatre, see a guy walk around the corner when no one else is moving, open fire, each bullet flashing and then single him out? There are two exits in a theatre. How many do you think ran toward the gunman? The gunman would be by far the easiest person to identify in that theatre. Theatres aren't that dark, are they? I was in one and could see inside the entire complex, quite well. I could certainly see 50-100' to hunt down the person standing there firing a weapon. As I suspected, progressives have a Koch Fetish.
