Champaign writer picks Michie #1 in AP pre-season poll...

Bob Asmussen, beat writer for Champaign News picks Mich #1. Either he knows something many of us don't or he's just looking for attention from the Michie faithful and hate from the SEC crowd.

More importantly, why doesn't a writer like this pick the Badgers ahead of Michie? What has Michie done to show they deserve a higher ranking than Bucky? Come on, we're 50and4 at home. Bucky continues to be the Rodney Dangerfields of College football.

Mike Salk and whoever the other guy filling in are ripping on him right now. Basically saying he's looking for national attention and 15 minutes. The guy apparently likes Robinson, likes who they have coming back, thought they looked good at the end of the year, they beat Va Tech, etc. By itself it all sounds fine, but poking holes in the rationale is not hard.

You would be hard pressed to find any Big Ten sportswriters worse than those in Chambana. Not sure if Asmussen was there when I was living there in the late 90s (I think he was), but I remembered some joker that was painful to read, but a welcome respite from Loren Tate.

That may be the stupidest attempt to justify anything I've ever heard. Michigan has momentum because of a Sugar Bowl win? Well wouldn't Alabama feel pretty good about.....oh, I don't know....winning the National Championship? Michigan loses 6 guys of the 9 on the defensive front from last year's depth chart but Alabama can't count on having a good defense? That guy should lose his vote, and frankly I wouldn't be surprised if his articles are written in crayon.

Hartman may be singularly worse, but he has semi reasonable people to balance him out.
