The guy is 61 years old - they should be able to find someone younger that can relate better to players and be a more effective recruiter. Going back in time, he was also one of the more hated gopher players back in the day. Lesson learned - don't hire former gophers. Bob Johnson was a former Gopher. Just sayin The timing of his decision is very odd, but I have no doubt UW will find a capable replacement. And this will probably turn out to be a blessing in disguise in the long run IMO. The timing may not be great but one is starting to get the sense Butters, like Markuson, just didn't fit in by the results on ice both in terms of record and in terms of statistics on defense. It's also a curiosity whether if the players didn't mesh with Butters evangelicalism and if that effected morale on the team. Maybe he did us a favor by leaving.
