Kromer finished 15th, 4th, 1st in Cross Country the last three years.  In track as a junior last spring, he finished 6th in the 1600 and 2nd in the 3200.  PR's of 4:14 and 9:19.

The senior class of boys in Wisconsin is better than it's been in a long time, maybe forever.  In that D1 1600 race last spring, 4:16 finished 9th and six of the top eight were juniors, including the winner, Carl Hirsch of Brookfield Central in 4:08.  Hirsch also ran a 1:48 split in the 4x800 and won the 3200 in 9:12.

Kromer kicked it up a couple of notches this fall, winning the XC title by 10 seconds.  Then last Saturday he became the first Wisconsin boy since 2004 to qualify for the Footlocker finals.

Kromer's father was an outstanding runner (also for Hudson) and then ran for the Gophers.  Kromer could have serious interest in the Badgers, or it's close to a done deal that he's going to Minnesota and the family is being polite to Byrne.  Or anything in between, or outside the margins with other schools.  I certainly have no idea.

Bottom line is that there are about ten guys in this year's class that the Badgers would be recruiting in a normal year.  And Byrne has to be recruiting nationally as well.  This is a huge next two months for the Badger distance program.

The state XC meet has been held in Wisconsin Rapids since 1988.  Below is a list of the top times run there.  XC times are hard to compare because of weather on the day, course conditions, etc, but the names expected to be there (Solinsky, Rombough, Downs, Jennings) are there.

John, Ryan's dad, from what I understand, said it's up to Ryan where he goes.....wherever he feels comfortable. The Kromer's are a great family. I ran with John when I was a Senior, 1979, and he was a Junior. I think John finished 9th his Senior year and like 24th or so his Junior year. He held Hudson's mile and 2 mile records for a long time but I'm about positive they've been broken. 

Ryan has become a national-type recruit after these last two meets, much to the angst of the Minnesota and Wisconsin staff's, no doubt.  Plus, I'm pretty sure he's ranked 1st in his class academically, which brings the Ivys (it's amazing how the right kid can get a full Ivy 'academic' scholarship) into play.  He's got options, all of them good.
