Chryst coming back would be ideal.

Hopefully little turnover in staff, no turnover in system.

Wisconsin guy so I wouldn't have questions about the manner in which he left Pitt.

We need to keep the ball rolling right now, there is no reason to go all crazy with the hire and change what's been working.

My concern with Golden would be his long term commitment to UW. He's not a midwest guy and doesn't have any Big Ten ties. The last thing we want is a coach who sees UW as a stepping stone. If Chryst comes, he's here until he either retires or is forced out.

The Coach Andersen era has begun.

You mean his alma mater being in the Big Ten isn't a Big Ten tie?

Who cares if the next coach uses it as a stepping stone, that means he will have been pretty damn successful. Would you rather still have 2Beez here and one less win each year for the last three years and no Rose Bowls?(rhetorical)Face facts, for most successful coaches UW will be a stepping stone. It's that way at every school that's not a "helmet" school.

About the only coach on the radar that I think might not use it as a stepping stone is Chryst and who is to say he wouldn't jet for the NFL if he had the same success 2Beez had.

Good point. The good news for us is that for a coach to use Wisconsin as a stepping stone, he would have to have a couple Rose Bowl appearances under his belt I would imagine.

Right, just like Bo Ryan. Bo doesn't want or need another job, he doesn't even look or care about openings. Same for Chryst, if he's hired he wouldn't move, period. With his offensive skills UW would be set for a decade or more, only needing a young aggressive defensive mind on board. This is a continuity hire that would keep UW revenue sports safe for a long long time. Chryst makes by far the most sense, as head coach he wouldn't be looking for money every year, top 5 in the B1G would be fine. Knowing Paul and the Chryst family, however, I can see him not walking away from Pitt just because it would feel wrong. He's a Badger thru and thru but he's the type to honor his word at Pitt over taking his dream job t UW. It has to be killing him not to be packing up as we speak.

As I suspected, progressives have a Koch Fetish.

I don't know if Chryst is a slam dunk to stay with Pitt. After seeing what Lane Kiffin did with Tennessee and going to USC, I wouldn't be surprised if Chryst leaves Pitt. The situations are somewhat similar.

And therein lies the problem, Samurai. Maybe the situations are somewhat similar, but if you mention PC in the same breath as Kiffin, it's kind of disheartening. The former to my knowledge has never done anything dishonorable; the latter anything honorable. I'm with Fran and some others. Much as Chryst might be a great choice, I'm sure he committed himself to the Pitt program and recruits as an element of taking the job. Yeah, I understand "it's a business" (see Bielema, Bret), but I'd sure like to see a guy who's so closely identified with Wisconsin on a higher plane than the Kiffins of the world.

Maybe there was an informal understanding with Pitt that if the UW job ever came open, Chryst was free to go. But absent that, I would kind of wince if he left after a year.

I would be ok with Al...or the Fighting Irish DC. Either way, good choices, good recruiting potential and forget about Golden skipping,he would love to find a home and get out of that shit strom in Florida... he did wonders with little at Temple and 13-11 (2 yrs) in the turmoil of Coral Gables is a great job.

I don't know, is there any reason to think that an ND defensive coordinator with Iowa ties would make a good coach at Wisconsin?

Golden played at PSU prior to their B1G induction. For all intents and purposes, Golden is as "tied" to the B1G as Greg Schiano and Ralph Friedgen are.

The Coach Andersen era has begun.

1) Brett's buyout was not a whopper and at $1 Million a bit on the puny side for high D-1.

2) Protocol--Arkansas AD did not contact Barry for permission. While Barry didn't dwell on this, I'll, once again, go out on a limb and say he didn't like it one damned bit. He may forgive; he will not forget.

3) Brett's telling Barry he was leaving was the first, official, notice there was contact; Barry said he was surprised--I had read into his statement he was surprised Brett accepted, but knew of that contact.

Win or lose the Rose Bowl, this guy is good.
