Brandy, rum, bourbon? I'm a brandy guy with rum a close second. I haven't made homemade egg nog, but I have been busy making 'flips' of various kinds...

Mrs. Bowen's has been the mix of choice in the family for over two generations. Yeah, yeah, tell me how great your homemade stuff is. I tell you I've never had anything with the consistency and flavor of Mrs. Bowen's. The classic Tom and Jerry: Two heaping spoonfuls of Mrs. Bowen's eggnog mix in the bottom of a decent sized coffee cup. Add at least one shot of brandy (my choice is Korbel, but something decent) and one shot of rum (unlike TAW, I prefer the white Bacardi because I want the brandy to dominate). Add extra if you want it stronger, but no more than 1/2 booze. Bring water to a boil. Add boiling water to each cup until about 7/8 full. Stir with vigor, breaking up the cold Bowen's mix. Add that last little bit of boiling water and top with 2-3 dashes of nutmeg. Drink while hot. Mmmmm ... Levity and happiness to follow. If drinking these alone at home with the bride, maybe some good sex to follow! Bless the Badgers.

Beat me to it - no reason to reinvent the wheel. Most any grocery or liquor store should carry it this time of year. It should not be hard to find. Posts: 2362 December 26, 2012 4:28 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	I couldn't find any Mrs. Bowen's. I did find some Collins brand T&J mix at Binny's in Lakeview the other night. I ended up not using it because it looked disgusting, like a tub of lard. So today I ended up making my own. I just finished it and I'm waiting for it to chill. It was pretty easy to make with a Kitchen Aid. From the Chicago Tribune food blog The Stew Tom and Jerry The recipe for the batter makes for 25 two-ounce pours. 6 eggs, separated 2 1/4 cups sugar 1 teaspoon vanilla extract 1/2 teaspoon cream of tartar 1/2 cup half and half 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg 1 1/2 ounces whiskey or cognac, per serving 1. Separate eggs; set yolks aside. Beat the egg whites in a mixing bowl until peaks begin to form. Add 1/2 cup of the sugar; beat until peaks form again. Add yolks to the whites, beat in. Add remaining sugar, vanilla and cream of tartar. Beat until combined. Stir in half and half. Refrigerate in a covered container for 30 minutes before preparing the drink. 2. To make 1 drink: Pour 1 1/2 ounce whiskey or cognac into a coffee mug. Add three ounces (about 1/3 cup) boiling hot water. Ladle 2 ounces (1/4 cup) of batter on top. Garnish with grated nutmeg. Serve .I'm substituting rum & brandy for the whiskey.

Mix well, add a little more hot water, then the nutmeg. See my directions above. Bless the Badgers.
