Six runs should be enough to win most games, but 8+ runs should be enough to win every game. Agreed. Does that mean you blame the loss on the offense because they scored 6 instead of 12? It's like saying a pitching staff deserves the blame for a loss because it gave up 1 run. Who cares that the offense failed to score a single run! For a pitching staff, 1 run is good enough to win most games, but 0 should be enough to win every game. Damn pitching staff.

Posts: 597 05/05/08 9:33 AM Sasha Da-binsky	Hey gobbz, for once I agree with you. Not even just on this board, but I've got a ton of friends in meltdown mode as well. I think with Gallardo out, unless a miracle happens pitching wise the Crew is in serious trouble. There are just so many things wrong with this club right now, my only saving grace is they are not that far out of the race yet. I'm not giving up hope just yet, but something has to happen to shake this squad up.They've only had a couple of games with Cameron, and he looks like he could be the real deal. I'm hoping Melvin can find a pitcher who can go more then 5-6 innings, and hopefully the bats can get going as well. I'd look for Manny Parra to be sent down shortly or at least put in long relief. The 5 innings he gives the team every 5 days isn't going to cut it anymore as a starter.

What ticks me off about it is Gagne is gonna take a lot of heat, and while he hasn't been lights out, he DOES have nine saves, and it probably should be eleven. Houston is pretty much a free-swinging team, and after two ground balls both result in hits, they suddenly flip to David Eckstein mode. Hard to believe. In looking at the whole weekend, I'm much more upset at our starters in games 1 & 2 than I am in Gagne. After Gallardo's injury, you need at least one of them to step up & at least show some semblence of being more than a back-of-the-rotation pitcher. It may be asking too much but one of them needs to grow up a little bit. Instead they both made Todd Wellemeyer look good. Of course, they weren't the only ones.

I'm not sure you have anyone else who would be better. This staff is mediocre at best. The team isn't going to be a contender until this changes. x

Brewers fans make fun of Cubs fans, like they are some sort of different breed. Make as many jokes as you want, but every cliche you can come up with can also be, at some point, attributed to a portion of the Brewers fans as well. And in a shocking revelation, it could probably be attributed to any fan base... in any sport. Yes, Cubs fans are an easy target. A lot of that has to do with the fact that there are A LOT more Cubs fans out there... and you can attribute that to not only the size of the state/city, but also because of WGN. I know I've brought this up before, but Cubs fans remind me so much of Badger fans in a lot of ways. There is the hardcore high sports IQ fans, the student section (bleachers for the Cubs... that's the biggest group of people out there; college type kids), sexy girls and those who just want to go to a game, throw some back and enjoy themselves. Sure there are dbags in the Cubs stands, and I have met shit tons of dbags at Badgers games. I know it seems like there are soooo many dbag Cubs fans, but that is just because there are more Cubs fans period. So accordingly, by sheer volume, you will get "more dbags," "more lower baseball IQs" and more band wagoners. But these titles are simply not restricted to Cubs fans... they just aren't. I can go to Miller Park and find the exact same thing. I laugh at the "our fans vs your fans" thing. If you haven't ever read the Onion Article about "The local sports team from your area," do yourself a favor and read it. Bottom line is this: Bears fans will rip Packers fans, Brewer fans will rip Cubs fans, Yankee fans will rip Red Sox fans and Michigan fans will rip OSU fans. You can even see this on Buckyville. I'm sure it's no surprise that every other 'rival' (and I use that term loosely) team's fans are a joke (OSU, Michigan, Minnesota...). In shocking news, those fan bases think all Badger fans are drunken idiots who wear hunting gear to games. Does it really go farther than this with Cubs fans? Am I missing something here?

However, I'm definitely not losing hope for the season. Something does need to be done to improve the pitching staff, that's obvious. It's a long season and every team in the race will have a rough stretch. However, losing games like the Brewers did yesterday is what they did last year and it cost them the division. I don't want to see that again this season. Posts: 598 05/05/08 11:00 AM Sasha Da-binsky	I think one of the saddest stats right now for the Crew is something I heard during the broadcast yesterday. They haven't had a starter, other then Sheets, get a win since May 5. Now those aren't all games the Gagne blew either. You can blame Gagne with whatever you want, starting pitching isn't going far enough in games. Hitting has been atrocious. Coaching has been crappy, not just Yost. Yet, the Crew remains only 3 1/2 out. I believe, although many Crew fans are telling me differently, that there is a light at the end of this tunnel. If Nedley can find a way to get the bats going they can still make things really interesting. I'm still at a lose over Gallardo, but Melvin ain't no fool and I'm hoping he can reach into his bag of tricks and find a decnt pitcher out there that can get us by. All hope is not lost.

To still have hopes of being a playoff team, though, either: Villanueva or Parra needs to have the light come on & suddenly show semblence of being a #2 or 3 type-guy (unfortunately not likely to happen this early in their careers) or A trade for a starter needs to be made. Guys like Melvin & Gord Ash always downplay this, making it sound next to impossible. It IS much more difficult to pull off this early in the season, but looking at the current roster & what they have in the minors (Huntsville in particular) a package could probably be put together--and no, not including LaPorta. But Melvin strikes me as wanting to exhaust all other options before even considering it. Pretty sensible post, Hulk. Are you sure you're a Cub fan?

Everyone knows the Cubs haven't won since 1908 and haven't even been in the WS since 1945, but you have to be about 60 to have seen/enjoyed the Braves' 57 Series win. So unless you're older than 55, there really isn't that much difference between Braves/Brewers fans (2 playoffs, with 1 WS) and Cubs fans (3 playoffs) as far as success goes that you witnessed. And if you are 30 years old or younger, the Cubs actually have more success (3 playoff appearances to none). The fans of quite a few teams can talk about how they have seen their team win a lot more important games on a national stage than the Cubs have. The Braves/Brewers are not one of them.
