Does anybody have any idea how I can fix this on my own? Thanks in advance!
It rained a lot this weekend and water accumulated in my basement in a couple areas. The water has caused the paint primer to peel in some areas. Back to the drawing board.
There must be a problem with my window well. When it rains, it fills up with water. The water leaks through the window, slowly runs down the wall and puddles up on the floor. I cannot just put a bubble over the well because the exhaust from the washer/dryer vents out of that window. A large bubble with a hole and tube for that vent would probably only last for a few days because I am the worst backwards driver in the state and would run over it. I've already killed all the grass on the other side of the driveway.
On Wednesday afternoon, before the rain, I spent about 5 hours scraping the old, flaking paint and covering it with primer. After it dries I am going to put the new paint down.
I said "screw it" and went to Home Depot and bought paint scrapers, primer, paint, and some rollers right after lunch.
Wednesday morning my wife was all pissed off on me because she found some paint flakes upstairs. She accused me of not caring if our daughter develops cognitive health problems.
No matter how many times we sweep the basement floor, paint chips always seem to find their way upstairs. In the living room, the hallway, the baby's bedroom...
My wife scours over the dustpan like a 49er panning for gold. "I FOUND A PAINT CHIP!!!!"
My wife dismisses the lead paint testers as stupid and unrealiable.
The lead paint testers all came up negative.
My wife made me buy lead paint testers.
My wife is convinced the the pain in the basement is lead paint because our house was built in the 1940s.
There are lots of paint chips upstairs.
We each have a pair of slippers at the bottom of the steps. We are supposed to wear them when we are in the basement. My wife does. She is in the basement all the time because that is where the laundry machines are located. I don't. I go downstairs to crap because that is where my toilet is. Usually my slippers are facing different directions and I have waited until the last minute to crap. It always seems possible to tap dance around the tiny paint chips that I cannot see. There is never time to flip the slippers around correctly.
The water apparently caused the paint on the basement floor to chip and flake in about four areas. I hope this does not become a problem. Maybe I am not a genius.
The water accumulation in the basement appears to have stopped. I am a genius.
I cleaned out the gutter.
It appears that the reason the water has leaked into the basement is because I never cleaned the gutters that hang over the window well. The water has leaked out over the side of the gutter and into the window well. I am a lazy idiot.
Water has begun to accumulate in the basement after heavy rainfall. I have no idea why this is happening. It is a complete mystery and I am baffled.
In 1948, my house was built.
