Posts: 2003 07/18/08 9:27 PM	I don't know if this has been discussed lately but I didn't see it on the first few pages. I do have some questions--with the line going back a foot--would appreciate others' opinions. 1. will that help the Badgers defense opponent's shooting guards better? (Especially without Flowers) 2. will it be confusing for players who just knew where the line was before and now they will look down at the floor before shooting? 3. will the games be lower scoring? 4. will the little used idea of fouling so a 3pt shot won't be used to beat you--go to the wayside?

Posts: 1414 07/19/08 8:12 AM The Geek From 16 Candles Whose Name I Don't Remember	My guys are playing in a summer league on a collegiate court and they had a little trouble adjusting the first night. They were looking down to see where they were because, I think, most kids intuitively know where the 19-9 line is. I don't think it will take too long for the players to adjust to the new line. I don't think the games will be lower scoring. I doubt you'll see much change in the average score of the average game. I don't think a coaches strategy at the end of games will be effected. If you're a coach who has not fouled in the past; you're not going to foul now and if you're coach who did foul then I would assume they would foul now as well. As for helping or hurting the Badgers. Good question. I have no idea about the answer.

Posts: 1457 07/19/08 10:41 AM "CactusJorts"	LINK to article discussing the new rule. The new 3-point line is 20'9", one foot farther than it has been. I like this rule change. I'd prefer the 3-point line be abolished entirely, but this is a move in the right direction.

Now I am wondering if the guards do have to go out further to guard the guy shooting the 3, would that open it up more the inside posts and cause some issues for the Badgers?

Posts: 1422 07/19/08 2:09 PM The Geek From 16 Candles Whose Name I Don't Remember	My initial thought is that the defender is going to have to stretch a foot farther out on the court which, in theory, should give the post players a little more room to work. I think the "issues" go both ways. In theory the swing should benefit from the extra room for the post players. It will be interesting to watch. I would think that drive and kick teams may have the hardest adjustment with the importance the arc is for the spacing of those offenses. I would assume an inside oriented team is going to have an eaiser time adjusting to the change. Just my two cents.
