Captain Kirk in possible trouble..... |
Lead | ||
|
Another blot in Hawkeyeville for public drunkeness and resisting arrest. That's something like 17 player arrests over the past year. The big news though
that broke on the front page of the local rags is a cover up in the athletic department on a brutal rape case under investigation for the past several months
involving Hawkeye football players. It's being reported that a statement by a mother has been conviently misplaced. I guess the Hawkeye premium board is in
a uproar and callng for the heads of the AD and Ferentz. I've always had the upmost repect for Ferentz as a football coach and individual. I know you
can't be a mother hen to 120 football players, but this reaks of sticking you head in the sand.

I would be shocked if Ferentz had any involvement in such activities, and think most of Hawkeyeland would be too.
Best to let the facts come out before rushing to judgement...I recall rumors of unsavory behavior by Barry being nothing more than idle but malicious gossip. |

Kirk is safe there for as long as he likes, in all likelihood, unless they are bad for a few consecutive seasons.

Lost in the messenger here is the message. The mood in Iowa is dark right now, to say the least, and it's becoming possible that Ferentz is losing the fan
base over this.
Not saying UW's been angels and UW has had sexual assualt issues and domestic violence issues in recent years with FB players, but for the most part one gets the impression that the legal process runs its course without interference. Also, knock on wood, it's been a quiet off-season. |

That article linked by badger74 is, at a minimum, a PR kick in the teeth. But if it's true that the Athletic Department violated University rules by not informing the alleged victim she was entitled to an advocate, and did not inform the Rape Victim Advocacy Program, the Uni-cops, or Student Services (which I gather they're required to do), they've got a bigger problem than PR. If Ferentz was directly involved in trying to contain this allegation--even if the allegation itself proves false--I would think that at a minimum he'd be subject to disciplinary action, although given the hint that the President of the University also tried to hush things up...well, let's not go there just yet. This could be very nasty.

That's the thought I had. Sexual assualt charges can be very hard to prove. Evidence that policies and procedures were not followed by administrative types, much less so. The obvious question an investigator of any sort asks is, "You have a procedure, why didn't you follow it?" The answer to this can be very enlightening. If the Iowa players are convicted, AND university policy was not followed a lot of people are in serious trouble. The difficult part will be the questions arising in the case the players are not convicted, but it is also found out policy was not followed. The never-to-be-answered question would be, "Did the delay in the official investigation that occurred while the 'cover-up' was attempted cause justice to not be served by fatally flawing a case against actually guilty defendants by an actually assaulted victim?" I would think there was a lot that occurred before a police investigation began that a defense attorney could use to draw doubt on the allegations. |

Not quite, badgerinos. The only known involvement of Ferentz came at the fathers request when a meeting was being held concerning FB players in question. (per
mother's letter)
Ferentz quickly suspended the two players in question indefinitely. Unless Ferentz was pressuring the victim to take a certain course of action -- which we have absolutely no evidence of or reason to believe -- then he won't be held accountable for anything. He did his only duty in handling the FB players in regards to their athletic status with the school. I am confident he will not face any punishment from the U of I or from the court of law. The only implications of a 'cover up' are based upon the words from the mother in the letter that suggested that the U of I encouraged the victim to take 'informal' process. (informal, formal and criminal were made known as choices by U of I according to the mother -- what exactly each entailed is another matter) |

DogBlow wrote: DogBlow? ...apt name. Maybe you ought to check what has been reported before dropping a steamer on our board. Here's a link jackass. Someone's head is going to roll in IC. My guess is Barta takes the fall. Ferentz is likely gone at the end of the year. If he has a good season he will parlay it into a decent job in the NFL (e.g., DC). If he has a repeat of last year he will likely be shown the door and/or will leave for a less desirable gig in the NFL (e.g. line coach). So much for that Hawkeye dynasty we were privileged to hear so much about. I guess they didn't quite make it into "the big three" after all. |

Colin Cowherd just ripped, I mean really RIPPED Ferentz and the entire Iowa program...said the same thing, that heads would roll. Called them a "horribly
run" program that has fallen fast. Nice...oink, oink!

And to think 3-4 years ago how worried a lot of us (including myself) were that they had the better program and we were going to have a tough time keeping pace
with them. How the roles have reversed.

Not everyone was worried, of course. Some of our Hawkeye posters were going on about how they were now up there with OSU and UM, but there was, let us say, some healthy skepticism on this board. The skepticism has proven to be well-founded, as they had a three-year run, and then regressed to the mean. Note their records under KF (I've added BA's record for the same point in his UW tenure in parentheses): 99: 1-10 (1-10)
